1 1/2 cups melted butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp nutmeg (freshly ground is best)
1/2 tsp salt
3 1/2 cups flour
1 cup finely chopped nuts
Mix the powdered sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, salt into the melted butter. Add the flour and mix thoroughly. Stir in the nuts. Work quickly while the butter is still warm so dough will be easier to work with.
Form the dough into one-inch balls, using your hands. Place balls on ungreased baking sheet, 12 balls to a regular baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees, just until set but not brown.
Allow to cool for 2 minutes then roll in powdered sugar while still warm. Place on a wire rack and allow to cool thoroughly.
When cooled, roll in powdered sugar a second time. Store in a cookie jar or covered bowl.
Variation: Substitute 1 cup of flaked coconut and form balls around a piece of chocolate.
