3/4 cup butter, divided and softened
1/3 cup unsweetened baking chocolate
1 cup Dr. Pepper + 1/4 cup for icing
2 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp cherry extract
2 tsp vanilla extract, divided
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
16-oz powdered sugar
1 tbsp honey
Nonpareils' candies for decorating
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a flour a 9-inch square baking pan; set aside.
Melt 1/2 cup of the butter, baking chocolate and 1 cup Dr. Pepper together in a large saucepan; remove from heat. Blend the eggs and sugar with the cherry extract and 1 teaspoon of the vanilla extract. Whisk in the flour, buttermilk, salt and baking soda. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done.
While the brownies are baking, make the icing. Heat remaining butter, the cocoa powder, and remaining Dr. Pepper until butter is melted. Stir to blend well. Stir in the powdered sugar, remaining vanilla extract and the honey.
When brownies are removed from oven, drizzle the icing over the top and sprinkle with the nonpareils. Allow to cool completely then cut into bite-size pieces to serve.
Note: I have not yet tried this recipe. I just received it from Kroger and thought it would be a good recipe to share.
